The Renaissance-era walls that defended Lucca are still completely intact. A sidewalk goes around the entire 4km perimeter, making it a favorite place to go for a walk, jog or bike ride. There are many stairs and walkways that permit anyone to gain access, with even playgrounds and small cafes along them which make them a main attraction in Lucca.
